Three Application Methods for BSMI Certification

BSMI battery testing certification includes two types:

  • Type Approval (EMC+Safety) which has been required for 178 electronic and electrical products since January 1, 2004. The applicable standards are EMC+Safety, and the required documents include a product type approval application form, the license of the company or factory, a testing report, technical documents for electromagnetic compatibility (photos, labels, components susceptible to electromagnetic interference, diagrams, and user manuals), as well as technical documents for regulatory compliance. The TS mark certification Taiwan is valid for three years and can be renewed once.

  • EMC Type Approval (replacing the previous EMC application) which has been mandatory for electronic and electrical products since November 1, 2002. There are 61 electronic and electrical products that only require EMI, and 124 that require both EMI and regulatory compliance reports (if the product has regulatory compliance requirements). The applicable standard is only EMI, and the required documents include an electromagnetic compatibility type approval application form, a testing report, and technical documents for electromagnetic compatibility (photos, labels, components susceptible to electromagnetic interference, diagrams, and user manuals).

BSMI battery testing certification registration:

The date of mandatory implementation has not been announced yet, and the applicable standard is EMI+regulatory compliance. The required documents include a product type approval application form, the license of the company or factory, the battery testing report, technical documents for electromagnetic compatibility (photos, labels, components susceptible to electromagnetic interference, diagrams, and user manuals), as well as technical documents for regulatory compliance and a declaration of conformity. The certificate is valid for three years and can be renewed once.

BSMI battery testing conformity declaration:

Mandatory implementation began on January 18, 2002, and it is applicable for 19 types of components in information technology equipment. The required documents include a conformity declaration, a testing report for ongoing reliability test, and technical documents for electromagnetic compatibility (photos, labels, components susceptible to electromagnetic interference, diagrams, and user manuals).

For electronic and electrical products, the Standards Bureau provides three application methods with the following characteristics:

  • The conformity declaration is only applicable for some components of information technology equipment (please refer to the product description on the Bureau of Standards Inspection website).

  • The manufacturer of the product can decide whether to apply for certification registration or type approval based on the product cost.

  • The difference between certification registration and type approval lies in: (1) the inspection method. If the product has obtained type approval, the inspection process for customers will be simplified. Products applying for certification registration will not be inspected by customers, but will be tested randomly in the market. (2) The cost difference. The application fee for certification registration is higher than that for type approval and annual fees are required for certification registration, but not for type approval.
