In 1918, the American Engineering Standards Committee (AESC) was founded by ASTM, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Society of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers (ASMME), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Society of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) and other organizations.
ASTM was formally established in 2001 as the International Association for Testing Materials
Testing Materials, IATM).

China Packaging Association is one of the national industry associations approved by the State Council. Its predecessor, China Packaging Technology Association, was founded in 1980 and formally renamed as "China Packaging Association" with the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs on September 2, 2004. The federation has 25 specialized committees, and has local organizations in all provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central government, cities separately listed in the state plan and central cities, with nearly 6,000 members at all levels.
China Packaging Federation has established relations and cooperation with packaging organizations of more than 20 countries and regions in the world, and on behalf of the People's Republic of China has participated in international packaging organizations such as World Packaging Organization, International Corrugated Box Association, Asian Packaging Federation, Asian Corrugated Box Association and European Aerosol Alliance.
